The Southwest Paintings

This painting was inspired by the walls of multi-storied pueblo dwellings of the Anasazi—the “Ancient Ones”—at Chaco Canyon in northwest New Mexico. Over centuries these walls were laid bare to intense light, resulting in hues and values of red against the backdrop of somber tones of dark umber-to-purple of the enveloping canyon.

I painted this in a rock alcove at Chaco canyon.

Oil on canvas in oak frame. 44" x 44"
